The carpet is a wool rich blend using British Wool (50%) with the added benifit of man made fibres Lanelle PP (40%) and Tuftbond (10%).

Forest Hills comes in a pleasing range of naturals, and muted colours and greys. The ‘Super’ has a density of 32 oz/per yrd2 and ‘Elite’  a density of 42 oz/yrd2.

The Campaign for Wool

HRH Prince Charles is spearheading a 5 year campaign to reignite the UK’s interest in, and appreciation of, wool. As 75% of all wool produced in the UK goes into carpet, and it is by far the best fibre for carpet, the UK carpet industry is firmly behind this initiative.

The campaign embraces carpet, clothing, fashion, bedding, upholstery, interior textiles and building insulation materials. It is being supported by all the major high street fashion chains including John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Jaeger, Topshop, Burberry and many more. It culminates in Wool Week which runs from October 11th to 17th 2010.

Why the need for a campaign?

  • Sheep numbers have fallen by 15% in the UK in the last 3 years
  • It costs more to shear sheep than the price of the wool shorn
  • Wool prices have fallen
  • Wool less sheep are being genetically bred and farmers are opting for them
  • The benefits of wool rich carpet are well known in the industry but 70% of all carpet sold in the UK is synthetic
  • If only 1.5% of you who currently buy a synthetic carpet were to switch to wool, it would boost demand for wool by 2.8 million kilos

Give fleece a chance!

A wool rich carpet gives unbeatable luxury, combining softness with durability. For discerning consumers and well known contract installations, a blend of at least 80% wool is the preferred choice. Wool rich carpets grace some of the most prestigious locations and homes in the world – and it is no wonder considering the benefits of wool rich carpet:

Resilience It wears very well
Appearance Retention It looks good for longer
Luxury It is naturally soft and warm and comfortable underfoot
Sound Impact sound is significantly reduced as it is absorbed
Insulation An excellent thermal insulator, heat loss through the floor is significantly reduced as is heat loss from one’s feet so improving energy efficiency
Indoor air quality Humidity and airborne toxins are absorbed so indoor air quality is greatly improved
Fire safety Naturally fire retardant, it does not support combustion
Safety Soft and forgiving, it has high slip resistance , cushions falls and reduces the potential for injury
Environmental properties It is a natural product, grown on sheep grazing in open countryside. It is also a sustainable raw material as well as being biodegradable. The production of wool fibre has a lower impact upon the environment than synthetic fibres used in carpet.
Flexibility Easy to dye, it produces high colour definition and lustre. It can also be blended with synthetic fibres to enhance durability.
Ease of maintenance Wool is naturally ‘soil hiding’ and so appears cleaner
Health Airborne dust is reduced and allergens trapped prior to removal by routine vacuum cleaning

Re: PH Buxtons and Sons Limited; Unit 6 Woodingdean Business Park, Brighton

I have for twelve years been involved as a Contract Administrator and Surveyor in construction and refurbishment projects throughout Sussex. Clients include East Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council, Sussex University, West Sussex County Council, Eastbourne Borough Council and Brighton and Hove City Council.

On many projects, Buxtons Ltd have acted as main contractor and on many others as subcontractors, and on every occasion, I have found them to be excellent in both the quality of the product they produce and the level of pre and post contract service they provide.

I have dealt directly with Mr R Buxton and Mr S Knight, and both have provided specialist knowledge which has assisted in the execution of our work.

Buxtons have acted on both new build and refurbishment projects ranging from flooring to individual dwellings to large educational and commercial concerns.

I would recommend this company to any organisation seeking to employ a specialist flooring contractor and am confident that they would add value to any project on which they worked.

Yours Faithfully,

Press Release April 2010

Founded in 1919, as a small shop at Ditchling Road, Brighton, selling predominantly second hand furniture, Buxtons soon grew under its founder Percy Buxton, and after 1945, new outlets appeared in other areas of the North Laine area and also Shoreham and Crawley.

Development of the Ditchling Road site during the 1960’s enabled the site to be the furniture showrooms, offices and headquarters of a new commercial flooring division.

With further changes to the business during 2006, Buxtons now operates on 2 sites: the Commercial Flooring and Curtain Division now operates from modern offices fully equipped with carpet showroom & warehouse at the newly designed Woodingdean Business Park on the outskirts of the city.
